Discovering Yeu Island
Let’s discover one of the most beautiful jewels of the Atlantic, the sublime Ile d’Yeu!
This island, shaped by centuries, is sure to charm you. Port Joinville and its authenticity, the rugged landscapes of the wild coast, turquoise waters and heavenly beaches should be enough to set the scene. Yes, believe us, this escapade will be a feast for the eyes, and it should seal some lasting memories in your hearts.
Let me start by giving you some practical information, to help your day run as smoothly as possible. You’ll have to take the boat first, and then get to the island, of course. As a second option, you can choose to go by helicopter. The route is more pleasant, but more expensive.
From your Les Flots de l’Océan campsite, head for Fromentine, and in particular its port of embarkation. Parking is available at a charge. Several cruise lines can take you to the island.
To give you an idea, here are the Yeu Continent fares for example:
- For an adult: €42.50
- For 13-18 year olds: €29.80
- Ages 4-12: €23.30
- For 0-3 year olds: €8.20
If you book more than one month in advance, you will benefit from a lower price:
- For an adult: €38.20
- For 13-18 year olds: €25.50
- For 4-12 year olds: €19.00
- For 0-3 year olds: €3.90
The crossing takes 30 minutes, so take your time to savor the swell of the waves and the salty smells emanating from the tread of the sea.
When you arrive on this wonderful island, you can rent bicycles for easy access to all the nooks and crannies. And if you’re not too keen on cycling, you can rent a scooter, for example. A word of warning: bicycles are very much in demand during the peak summer season, so remember to plan ahead and rent some in advance.

I hope you’re ready for 14 kilometers of trails and roads. This tour is accessible to all. The only problem is the wind, which can complicate the ride for young children or less athletic people. The complete loop takes just 4 hours 30 minutes, including breaks.
If you’d like to make the route easier, you can do so by taking shortcuts, so don’t hesitate to ask about them before you set off.
Throughout your walk, you can expect to be amazed by the beauty and charm of this island and all its rocks. You’ll be overwhelmed by the local flora and fauna, and feel free in the heart of this unspoilt natural environment.

- La Pulante and La Gournaise beaches for a heavenly mix of fine sand, rocks and wild creeks
- East coast beaches for a change of scenery: the golden sands and clear waters of the Marais Salé, Les Sapins and Anse des Soux beaches will delight you.

The island’s former castle
With a guided tour or on your own, visit this marvellous period castle and take a trip back in time. Dating back to the Hundred Years’ War, it has retained all its charm. The little extra: if you wish, an enthusiastic guide can reveal all the secrets and tell you the story.
Between April and September, book your guided tour for €6 per adult, €2 for people aged 7 to 18, and free for children under 7.
Port de la Meule
It’s a famous port, which has preserved all its natural allure, and will delight your stroll. It’s a must-see on your visit, with its wild, quiet cove.
Port Joinville
To round off this pleasant day in the sunshine and atmosphere of the Isles, head for Port Joinville, where you arrived that morning.
